Thank you for your interest in the DSSP fellowship. We are a NASS Recognized Interventional Spine and Musculoskeletal Medicine Fellowship. Our twelve-month PM&R based program strives to provide comprehensive interventional spine, sports, and musculoskeletal education in a private practice setting that stresses ethical and evidence-based medicine. We have five board-certified PM&R physicians who practice out of three offices in Phoenix, Scottsdale and Mesa which include fluoroscopic procedure suites and on-site physical therapy.
We select one to two fellows each year who start their training in July with flexibility of the start date pending the approval of the Fellowship Director. Each fellow works directly under the supervision of a DSSP physician. A typical week consists of a blend of both outpatient clinic including patient evaluations, electrodiagnostic studies, ultrasound guided injections and PRP as well as fluoroscopic spine and joint procedures. The fellow also presents 1-2 articles at our monthly journal club which includes physical therapists and medical professionals from the community, and delivers a monthly lecture to the practice on a Spine or Musculoskeletal Medicine topic.
Requirements for application to the DSSP fellowship include the following:
Starting January 24th, applications should be submitted directly to NASS at https://www.spine.org/match/mc/ISMM2022. Once application materials are received, we will review the materials on a rolling basis and contact selected residents for an interview. The interviews will be conducted between March 29th and July 23rd, 2022. We encourage in-person interviews, however interviews may also be conducted over Zoom (pending travel guidelines pertaining to COVID-19). Typically the in-person interview will take place over one day with time spent with physicians and fellows in the clinic and procedure suite in two of the three offices. Our fellowship will abide by the Match Day of August 3, 2022. Applicants should feel free to correspond with any questions directly to Kathryn Meloy, DSSP Practice Administrator at firstname.lastname@example.org.

"The fellowship at Desert Spine and Sports Physicians is not just a training program on how to perform injections but a true education on how to practice evidence based musculoskeletal medicine in a private practice that provides the highest level of patient care in a fun and collegial setting. I will always be eternally grateful for the knowledge and skills that Drs. Brad Sorosky, Susan Sorosky, Tima Le, and Arthur Hatch all taught me as they have prepared me to practice confidently and help my patients."

"My fellowship at Desert Spine and Sports Physicians was such a wonderful experience! I learned so much about the nuances of treating the spine and delivering quality patient care in the setting of a real-world, private practice. My mentors and colleagues not only offered their guidance, but were always open to answering all of my questions. Furthermore, the warmth and support of all of the staff made it a joy to be a part of DSSP, one big family!"
We are here for you at DSSP. We continue to offer Telehealth visits in addition to in-office appointments for evaluation and management of your pain complaints. In accordance with the new CDC guidelines regarding indoor mask use being optional based on the COVID-19 community level in Maricopa, it is now optional to wear a mask at DSSP. If you are sick, at-risk, or live with an at-risk individual, we encourage you to wear a mask. Additionally, if any patient prefers their provider to wear a mask, we will gladly continue wearing our masks during your in-person appointment.
